Lu Fengzhao

Lu Fengzhao's boyfriend of two years dumped her for a rich, beautiful woman. On the day he graduated from college, he held his wedding, while she crouched outside the hotel in a torrential downpour, soaked to the skin. Looking down at her, he said, “You really are pitiful. You can only blame the family you were born into.”

In that moment, Lu Fengzhao's love-addled self died.

She wiped away her tears, deleted every way to contact him, and wrote on the first page of her notebook: “You’re better off relying on yourself than on heaven or anyone else.”

From then on, she had only one goal: to stand on her own two feet.

She started at the very bottom as an audit assistant, poring over receipts by day, studying for her CPA exams at night, and tracking the flow of funds into the early hours. Everyone told her that a woman just needed someone to lean on. She refused to listen. When the man who had climbed the ladder on his father-in-law’s coattails began siphoning off assets from a subsidiary, buying luxury homes, and keeping mistresses, she was the auditor who uncovered every piece of evidence, page by page.

Bank statements, shell companies, offshore accounts, approval forms bearing his own signature: over six months, she wove a net he could never escape.

In the end, the court found him guilty of embezzlement and sentenced him to seven years in prison. The man who had once told her, “You really are pitiful,” wept like a child in the dock. She stood in the witness box, expressionless.

This isn’t a revenge fantasy. It’s the story of a girl who pulled herself out of the mire.
