In the year 2055, the “Mountain and Sea Convergence Calamity” descends. This is not a case of spatial transmigration: the primordial source realm of the ancient Great Wilderness and Blue Star undergo a collision of tectonic plates. Seventy percent of the world’s land is replaced by ancient landscapes from the Classic of Mountains and Seas: the Zhāoyáo Mountains stretch across the Central Plains, the You Blackwater swallows coastal cities, the Qingqiu Marsh submerges the southern basins, and the Buzhou Fault Range splits the northwestern Gobi.
The laws of the Great Wilderness descend of their own accord as data-based rules, branding themselves onto every human body. All modern firearms fail across the globe, and humanity loses the protection of technology entirely. The surviving population reinforces the walls of existing megacities and builds fortified main cities. Everything beyond those cities is known collectively as the “Wilderness.”
