The Black-Hearted Fox Spirit Offers Herself to Repay Her Benefactor

The thousand-year-old fox immortal Chan You was stunningly beautiful, carefree by nature, and had rejected countless suitors. But after she was badly wounded, a young monk rescued her.

She spent two years recovering at the temple and grew close to the innocent, cheerful young monk. In the end, the old monk's concerns led to her being sent away.

When they met again ten years later, the young monk had grown into a cold, dull adult priest, while Chan You had begun to fall for him in earnest.

The two shared a brief period of passionate romance, but Chan You could not bear to be tied down and left, promising only, “I'll come back for you.”

When Chan You returned once more, she found that the monk's temples had turned gray. At last, she stopped wandering and stayed in the mountains with him until the end of his life.

After the monk passed away, she took with her the prayer beads he had loved most.

Chan You had thought the monk was just a passing visitor in her long life, a brief amusement.

But when she met his reincarnations again and again, she found herself repeating the same mistakes each time.

The fox was finally tamed, but only after she had come to believe she would always be free and untamed.
