The Crimson Mark’s Call

Li Feiyan has a faint red birthmark beneath her left eye, the size of a coin, like rouge falling onto snow.

When she was little, a fortune-teller told her, “This girl has a trial of love yet to overcome. Only when her birthmark fades will her true love fall for her.”

Feiyan, Kan Jiangchen, and Qi Wuxuan grew up together as childhood friends. Feiyan was bullied because of her birthmark, and Jiangchen and Wuxuan always stood up for her. She believed their bond was the most unbreakable thing in the world, until she fell in love with a boy as cold as frost, until she realized that Wuxuan was the only one in his eyes, and until their families announced the betrothal their grandparents had arranged.

She was overjoyed, but he flew into a rage in front of everyone. “I won't marry her!”

On their wedding night, the red candles wept. He looked at her with cold hatred, speaking only Wuxuan's name. She didn't know that Wuxuan was no longer the kindhearted girl she had once been. Every poisonous remark cut into Jiangchen's heart, wearing away the last of his tenderness toward Feiyan until it became hatred.

She brought him tea, and he knocked it away. She drew near, and he recoiled. She cried, and he grew impatient.

He said, “Li Feiyan, you ugly freak. You're not worthy of this marriage, much less of me.”

Feiyan's heart grew colder by the day. She put away all her foolish hopes and stopped taking even a single step toward him.

Just then, someone looked past her birthmark and saw the stars in her eyes.

When Kan Jiangchen first saw Feiyan smile at another man, the string in his heart that had long since snapped suddenly rang out once more.

He began to look back, only to discover that she had already shut him out of her heart.

That crimson mark would only fade when her true love fell for her.

And he... After hurting her so deeply, could he still be the one to make her birthmark disappear?
