“Bang!”

The head of an eighteen-year-old transmigrator from another world slammed into the corner of a table.

“Yu Ling, this wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t come! If you hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have had to do this!”

Blood gushed from his temple, obscuring his right eye before running down his face and dripping onto the floor.

“You want to gather power and ascend to heaven? Even if you really make it, my parents can still drag you back here and let us do whatever we want with you. Hahaha!”

Yu Ling couldn’t speak, but his eyes remained resolute.

His left eye stared fixedly past the crying, moaning figure before him, stained with blood, at the three people standing behind it, immaculate and splendid, their faces full of satisfaction.

“You play with people’s lives, watch people risk their lives, force people to risk their lives…”

A filthy mop was shoved into Yu Ling’s mouth. His limbs, tightly restrained against the chair, began to be torn apart. Excited laughter drowned out his consciousness.

They aren’t human…

Suddenly, everyone in the world felt a chill in their hearts. The three people who had been so brazen all collapsed to the ground.

When they came to, their heads, bodies, and limbs had all vanished. The distorted light sent them fleeing in terror. Only in their final moments did they realize it was space itself twisting.

…

After all of humanity shuddered, people began vanishing from the streets without a trace, and supernatural deaths grew increasingly common. In the end, humanity had to admit that the uncanny had invaded.

They appeared in places with few people, slaughtering anyone who broke their unknown rules by unknown means.

At the same time, some humans were chosen and sent to a place called the Old Realm to face trials of life and death. Among those who survived, some awakened the same kind of power as the uncanny and became mind-wielders. Humanity still had hope.
