Everyone feared Regent Song Mobai for his ruthless, bloodthirsty nature and his power over the court. Only Princess Zhaoyang, Lin Zhi, had enjoyed his indulgence for twenty-one years, receiving the most extraordinary love in the world and living without restraint or worry. No one knew that this ageless, all-powerful minister who defied heaven and ruled the world was actually a fox spirit who had watched over her for a thousand years. He defied fate to protect her soul, abandoning a thousand years of immortal cultivation to enter the turmoil of the mortal world. His body was stained with blood and guilt, all so he could preserve her innocence and keep her safe for a lifetime. But rumors spread, villains sowed discord, and suspicion took root. To save her gravely ill father and secure the realm, Lin Zhi believed that humans and spirits could never be together. She personally laid a vast trap, took his fox core, and severed his attachment, leaving him to vanish in body and soul, never to return. When the snow finally stopped falling, the truth came too late. She won a prosperous empire and a peaceful homeland, but she had personally killed the person who loved her most. From then on, the realm knew peace, and snow fell year after year, while all that remained for her was a lonely life, a lifetime of having failed him, and a regret with no remedy.
