Jiangzhou City had been battered by days of unending rain, when a long-abandoned red telephone booth began ringing again in the dead of night.
Anyone who answered the phone would hear the voice of someone already dead. Anyone who hung up would find their name on a list that didn't exist. Rainwater, telephone wires, black umbrellas, missing figures: a new supernatural incident was spreading through the city.
Zhou Chen, the person in charge of Jiangzhou City, was a Ghost Tamer on the verge of losing control. The ghost he commanded was no ordinary evil spirit, but a black ghostly umbrella that could never be opened all the way. Beneath it, the supernatural could be shut out, but it also left behind shadows that did not belong to the living. Every time Zhou Chen opened the umbrella, he moved one step farther from being human.
When a sealed case file about an anomalous communication incident resurfaced at headquarters and clues to the Ghost Post Office began to emerge, the red telephone booth became the only supernatural source in Jiangzhou City that could not be cut off. Before the evil spirit revived, Zhou Chen had to uncover its rules and contain this "rainy-night phone call" within Jiangzhou.
But evil spirits cannot be killed. They can only be contained.
And the price of some supernatural incidents is not death.
It is living on to answer every phone call that should never have rung.
