On the first day of December, Seiichi Yukimura was admitted to the single ward of Kanai General Hospital. The "Son of God" who was once invincible on the tennis court is now facing an unknown course of illness and a forced interruption of his tennis career.
That same night, a strange light flashed outside the ward window, and a little girl holding a guqin appeared out of thin air in the hospital garden. Cai Wenji came to this strange world because of the turbulence of time and space. She was so frightened that she was discovered by the nurse doing rounds on the ward and was almost treated as a lost child.
Yukimura heard the music coming from the garden late at night - it was a melody he had never heard before. It was ethereal and distant, and seemed to penetrate the heart. Weak, he pushed himself to the window and saw the shivering little girl huddled under the cherry blossom tree.
