The Divine Doctor in the Grand Secretary's Office

Nanling City, Qingteng County. The June heat was sweltering, and the cicadas' incessant cries were enough to drive anyone mad. In the old office building inside the county government compound, Shen Yan stared blankly at an aging computer with a yellowed screen. Spread across his desk was a report on "countywide river sand-mining regulation," but the dense text held less interest for him than the sparrows outside the window.

"Shen Yan! Are you fucking dead or what?" A roar rang out as someone kicked the office door open. It was Wang, the county office director, a fat man with a fleshy face. He had a cigarette between his fingers, and his spittle nearly hit Shen Yan in the face.

"Boss Zhao's convoy is waiting downstairs. Go open the car door for him! Are you blind? Look at the time!" Shen Yan didn't even raise his eyes. He typed the last character, saved the file, and shut down the computer. He moved unhurriedly, as if he hadn't heard a thing.
