Er Ya, a country girl, brings vegetables to the palace, where a wicked palace maid tricks her into entering the selection for a consort. Just then, the Crown Prince is fretting over the people the Empress has foisted on him, so he casually points at Er Ya and names her a secondary consort. She was supposed to be a disposable extra, but with her sincerity and simple-minded nature, Er Ya wins over the Crown Prince, the Empress Dowager, and everyone else. In a series of hilarious everyday mishaps, she accidentally helps the Crown Prince foil one plot after another and begins her rise from country girl to favored consort. The romance is tender, with plenty of humor, too.
