The 2008 Men's Basketball Team: I'm Proud to Be a Nepo Hire

After transmigrating to 2008, Lin Feng becomes the national basketball team's notorious “nepotism pick,” taking a spot from a deserving player through backroom connections. Yao Ming, Yi Jianlian, Wang Zhizhi, and the rest of the team all shun him. In the Olympic quarterfinals, China trails Lithuania by 19 points. The starters are injured, and the team has no one left to put in. Coach Jonas looks desperately toward the end of the bench. “Number 12, you're in.” One second before stepping onto the court, Lin Feng activates the [Olympic Glory System] and acquires Midorima Shintaro's full-court three-point ability from Kuroko's Basketball. He catches the ball at midcourt and shoots at once. Swish! The arena falls silent, then erupts. Five absurdly long three-pointers, capped by a buzzer-beating game-winner against Lithuania. His teammates go from “Get off the court” to “I'm sorry,” while the media changes its tune from “nepotism pick” to “savior.” Kobe walks over and takes off his jersey. “Kid, the NBA is waiting for you.” Lin Feng looks at the System's new mission, defeat the U.S. Dream Team, and smiles. A nepotism pick? Am I proud of it? Yes, I am.
