Synopsis

Adili is assigned to take up residence in Shazao Village. Before him, seven village cadres had mysteriously met their ends in this remote Gobi settlement. His own uncle had “died in the line of duty” there, but the case file gave no more than a cursory mention of the cause of death, with no evidence to be found.

At midnight, donkey hooves sound across the sand, pausing after every seven steps. A red-eyed evil donkey crouches before a grave and calls softly: “Climb on. I’ll take you to find your uncle.”

For fifteen years, the old man who bakes naan has stamped the fingerprints of the dead into every loaf. He secretly arranges sesame seeds into words of warning. A rabbit dies horribly, writing “Run” in blood. By dawn, its bones have vanished without a trace.

The villagers shun him as if he were a curse, every one of them keeping silent about the blood debt of the past fifteen years. The old rule is carved into the yellow sand: Once you enter Shazao Village, never look back. Your shadow was buried long ago beneath the Shazao Forest.

I Don't Believe There Are Any Stories Like This in the Supernatural Horror Genre

The protagonist keeps their word, never wavers, and has their own convictions and ideas. No flirting around, and no interest in women. The author should have a strong writing style and shouldn't arbitrarily make the protagonist or supporting characters stupid.
