This is a story about one person repeatedly opening a door, while another keeps waiting for him on the other side.
Every time Shen Ci is reset, he forgets who Lu Shiyan is. But every time, within three days, Lu Shiyan finds him, stands in front of him, and begins with the same words: “I’m here to take you home.” He has written down eighteen worlds in his notes: soft-boiled eggs need to steam for one minute and forty seconds, cinnamon rolls need half a spoon less sugar, and a scarf should be wrapped twice before being tied. He isn’t recording preferences. He’s recording Shen Ci. His spirit form is a Samoyed that wags its tail wildly whenever it sees Shen Ci. His mental landscape is a fairytale town, where every leaf on the tree is carved with the same name.
He says, “In every life, I’ll learn all over again. I’ll pursue you again, kiss you again, and see you look at me for the first time with that expression you give a stranger.”
This is a story about waiting. A story about, “No matter how many times you forget me, I’ll make you fall in love with me again.” Eight doors, eight cycles. Open the door, and there you are in the light.
