Eerie game scenarios suddenly appear, dragging ordinary people into deadly games against their will.
Every scenario draws on folk customs and rules lost to the ages: keeping vigil over the dead in a mountain village, warding off evil in an old mansion, funeral customs in western Hunan, feng shui for a yin house... Each is riddled with deadly traps.
The rules provided by the System seem safe, but they're all deceptive traps!
Many people think you die only if you deliberately court death. They don't realize that the real reapers are living people who tamper with the rules, and the desperate selfishness of those afraid to die.
Shen Yan was once a criminal investigation prodigy with the police. After exposing a wrongful case involving powerful people, he was forced out of the force, and his future was destroyed.
After accidentally entering a folk-horror scenario, he discovers that everyone else's way of clearing it is absurdly stupid.
Others survive by playing it safe, relying on luck, or clinging to powerful allies.
Shen Yan relies only on his eyes, which can spot flaws, and the investigative logic he has honed over years of solving cases!
The length of incense sticks conceals deadly danger; coffin patterns hide evidence; feng shui arrangements decide who lives and dies.
Someone wants to sacrifice a teammate to save themselves? He exposes them on the spot, then turns the rules against them and kills them instead!
A high-level player secretly changes the rules to launch a sneak attack? He spots the flaw and tears their privileges to shreds!
A century-old wrongful case lies buried? In the name of criminal investigation, he will win justice for everyone who died unjustly!
The mastermind Lu Yan holds special privileges in the scenarios, manipulating the whole game and playing with people's hearts as he controls their lives and deaths.
But he failed to account for Shen Yan: a ruthless man who trusts neither the rules nor the powerful, and cares only about the truth.
“Unjust rules don't deserve to be followed. I'll tear up every rule that cheats people and write new ones.”
