[Fragile, sensitive, well-behaved top student × Arrogant, carefree art student]
[Two female leads + happy ending + mutual healing + restrained aesthetic + school life]
In their second year of high school, someone took the seat beside Shen Yu.
Jiang Ye was carefree and flamboyant, with paint stains on her uniform that never came out. Shen Yu was quiet and proper, her nails bitten unevenly short. They were two lines that should have run parallel, drawn together by the width of a desk.
Shen Yu kept Jiang Ye’s fallen hair, discarded notes, and worn-down pencils in a tin box. On the backs of her sketchbook pages, Jiang Ye filled them with drawings of Shen Yu’s profile, eyelashes, and fingers worrying at her nails. They drew close in silence, tested the waters with glances, and made one “Good morning” last through the whole morning. The closer they got, the less they dared to move, like two hands searching for each other’s warmth beneath a desk: just a centimeter apart, yet neither one reached out first.
Later, they discovered that both of them had been hiding things. Shen Yu had hidden a box full of traces; Jiang Ye had hidden an entire book of secrets. All the things they hid, could not bring themselves to say, and secretly held on to were really the same sentence. They thought they were collecting fragments, but in truth, they were piecing together a map. It took a long time before they finally admitted it: the destination on the map was the other’s name.
