The Investiture of the Gods Is Overdue, So I Pay 100 a Month to Stay Alive

Zhang Zhiyi transmigrates, starting out in a mass grave with a debt of one thousand spirit stones and monthly payments of one hundred.

The Investiture of the Gods says: “Fail to pay on time, and you’ll be reduced to ashes.”

Zhang Zhiyi looks at his Chaos Spirit Root. It can simulate the Five Elements, but at double the cost: it eats through money even faster than the mortgage he paid in his previous life.

Fortunately, the Investiture of the Gods comes with 36 Yin Soldiers. Their monthly wages are only 20 sticks of incense, and benefits are out of the question.

Zhang Zhiyi immediately establishes the “Heavenly Court Office at the Mass Grave.” Its main business: cleaning up filth and clearing yin-filled ditches, selling yin energy to paper effigy shops, serving as an antiques appraiser for the black market, and helping alchemists sell the junk left over from exploding furnaces. From the local Earth God all the way to the City God of an entire province, he makes the divine path into an industrial park of the underworld by skimming perks, issuing IOUs, and floating bonds in the netherworld.

Shang Jiuwan, young heiress of the Treasure Merchants’ Guild: “You’re valued at one hundred thousand, but your debt ratio is 50%.”

Zhang Zhiyi: “Only 50%? I thought it was 100%.”

Qin Zhiyu, descendant of the Drought Demon: “There’s the fire of Nüba inside you.”

Zhang Zhiyi: “Can I save on heating in winter, then?”

While other cultivators are still miserably meditating, Zhang Zhiyi has already taken “underworld ready meals” across the province’s black markets, monopolized measurement standards with his “precision soul scales,” and is preparing to take his underworld IPO global.
