"You're the only person in this world who can make basketball feel worthwhile to me."
Five years after graduating from high school, Aomine Daiki is the ace of Japan's national basketball team, while Kise Ryota has retired due to a knee injury and become a fashion model.
The two meet again by chance during a magazine shoot. Kise smiles and reaches out, calling him "Aominecchi" just like he used to, but Aomine only frowns. "You've lost weight."
They try to keep a normal friends' distance: drinking at an izakaya, playing one-on-one on the court, and talking on the phone late at night. But every exchanged glance, every casual touch, feels like a fingertip about to brush the edge of the backboard: so close, yet forever out of reach.
This is a story about "almost." About how two proud people learn to draw close to each other again after losing basketball.
