In her senior year of high school, Lin Nanzhi wrote a book called The South Wind Handbook, recording her classmates’ youth. As the book was passed around and torn apart, Zhou Jibai saw what was happening but chose to stay silent. Seven years later, when the old school was set to be demolished, she returned to Nancheng No. 7 Middle School to put together an archival exhibition. At the old broadcasting station, she found a plea for help that had been buried. Everyone urged her to turn the past into a story of youthful heartbreak, but she searched the archives, interviewed those involved, and built a new system for responding to pleas for help. Zhou Jibai tried to explain himself with a long-overdue letter. She asked only one thing: Why had nobody answered back then? The old school would be demolished, and youth would become the past, but voices that had been ignored must never be silenced again.
