Synopsis

Xu Da, the Ming Dynasty’s foremost founding general, Zhu Yuanzhang’s top commander, and the man who laid the foundations for the vast Ming Empire, fought countless battles and never suffered a defeat.

Steady and wise, he wielded his forces like a master and excelled at directing campaigns and commanding vast armies in decisive battles. At Lake Poyang, he helped Zhu Yuanzhang crush Chen Youliang’s million-strong army and pacify the south. He then led the northern campaign, capturing the Yuan capital of Dadu, ending the dynasty’s century-long rule, reclaiming the Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun, and bringing an end to four hundred years of loss in the Central Plains.

Xu Da led every major battle in the founding of the Ming Dynasty. He pacified Wu and Yue in the south, swept the northern deserts, conquered Bashu in the west, and vanquished rivals across the land. Though his achievements were immense, he remained humble and discreet. He was the only top founding general of the early Ming to meet a peaceful end, and was hailed as the greatest military hero of the Ming Dynasty’s founding.
