The piercing pain spread from my lumbar spine to the top of my head. I heard the scream of metal collision, and the smell of rust and gasoline filled my nose.
I'm dead.
This thought struck my mind like lightning.
For the first thirty seconds, I was sitting at my workstation, staring at the code that would never be finished, staring at the damn deadline on the screen. The time in the lower right corner showed 3:17 in the morning. My neck was as stiff as an iron plate, my right hand was spasming and I couldn't press the "Save" button. Before I could swallow a sip of coffee, my heart suddenly twisted as if it was being grabbed, and then the whole world went black.
Now, these memory fragments are exploding in my brain.
But my consciousness is still there.
Then, I heard a voice.
No, it wasn't the sound of an ambulance, nor the shouts of anyone around me, but a cold mechanical sound that sounded directly in my head.
"The "Cat and Dog War" system is being bound... The binding is successful."
"Ding, the 365-day countdown has started."
"The current intimacy level of the cat faction: 0. The intimacy level of the dog faction: 0."
"Please choose the host as soon as possible. Otherwise, after the countdown ends, a war between gods and demons will break out in the community where the host is located."
Community?
My eyes shot open.
What catches the eye is a large piece of lime that has peeled off from the ceiling, revealing yellow cement. The yellow stains spread around like a child who wets the bed. The sun shone in through the worn and yellowed curtains, dyeing the entire room a sickly yellow.
