My Father, Chen Guangzong

Chen Rui hated his father for twenty years.

He hated him for being unable to pay his tuition, for doing nothing but drink, for being a pathetic failure.

Until his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and began to forget him, bit by bit.

Until he discovered that his father's severed fingers had been lost saving someone;

that the bankbook his father had hidden for fifteen years was meant for him;

and that the models his father had spent a lifetime building from scrap wood were the unfulfilled dream of his youth.

The man he hated had spent his whole life paving a path for him, one he never knew existed.

By the time he finally understood, his father no longer recognized him.

He built that building.

Before his father's memories vanished completely.
