"Countdown to 89" is based on the "Painzi" system in the future city. In the world, human suffering will be condensed into Painzi. The upper class survives by passing on the pain to the lower class. The pain bearers are forced to spend their lifespans to bear the pain of others. The protagonist Lin Wu starts the countdown from his 89-day life span. He was born with a conductor frequency of 600Hz, and in order to awaken his frozen sister Lin Wan, he embarked on a journey of constant pain and overdraft of life; Shen Youchu, as the only successful filter of the Cradle Project, has a 380Hz homologous frequency. The two are born with a resonance bond and can divert pain from each other. Along the way, you pass through abandoned roads, mechanical cemeteries, multi-layered restricted areas, and zeroing wells, uncovering dusty secrets such as the cradle experiment, the mother core, and Lin Su's sacrifice. Lin Wu suffered multiple overload injuries, amputation, and zero frequency stripping. His remaining days were gradually reduced, and he finally chose to sacrifice himself to transform into frequency and open a white hole. Shen Youchu sacrificed his right arm to use his identity as a key to break up the accumulated pain in the city and put an end to the deformed system of transferring pain. The story ends with the lemon candy paper boat floating to the sea, full of choices and tenderness in the countdown to fate.
