Zhuo and Xi

I often wonder what it would be like to have a childhood sweetheart. Could someone like that bring even the slightest comfort to my life, which has turned to ash? But reality is reality. It won't let us stop being practical. Fortunately, we have the right to dream. In our dreams, every one of us has wings and can fly.

This book is dedicated to my life, which leaves me at a loss for words.

Chen Shouzhuo and Xu Weixi were born on the same day. Their families lived just across a row of holly bushes from each other.

As soon as he learned to walk, he started tugging on her sleeve and wouldn't let go.

She kept in a tin box, for more than a decade, the wrappers from all the White Rabbit candies he gave her.

From kindergarten through high school, they walked to school together and walked home together.

The fishy smell of the market, the hiss of the bike repair shop's air pump, the leaves falling year after year from three wutong trees.

He never told her he liked her. She never asked.

But every answer was hidden in the White Rabbit candy he always pulled from his pocket.

This is a story about being there for someone. From the day they were born, they never left each other's side.
