Gu Zhengbang, a 32-year-old office worker, was once a marketing director at an internet company. After being laid off during an industry downturn, he now makes a living driving for a rideshare service. He is a longtime fan of Hong Kong dramas and current affairs, and has deeply researched Hong Kong Island's political and economic history from the 1970s to the 1990s. He even wrote an online novel about it, though it was a flop. After finishing his last ride late one night, he was on his way home when he was hit by a dump truck while saving a little girl who had run a red light. He transmigrates from 2024 to Hong Kong Island in 1971, becoming a uniformed junior police officer on patrol near Kowloon Walled City. On a typhoon-struck night that year, he storms the drug lord Crippled Ho's depot single-handedly, setting out on a blood-soaked path to becoming a kingpin.
