Cities rise in a forest of skyscrapers, their glittering facades hiding countless sinister feng shui formations. For generations, the Lin family of Lingnan has passed down the art of feng shui that protects homes. With their ancestral manual, The Compendium of Home Protection, they travel the world, inspecting burial sites, breaking evil formations, and keeping communities safe. But centuries ago, an ancestor incurred someone’s wrath, and the family was cursed by a malign force that haunted their very doorway. Each generation suffered calamity, and few met a peaceful end.
Twenty-two-year-old Lin Yan is the last heir of the Lin family. Born with a fate that can break calamities, he is impervious to evil spirits, but his destiny and the curse have also brought him a lifetime of hardship. After his parents were cruelly killed by a baleful curse, he withdrew to the depths of the old city, devoting himself to the family’s secret arts while secretly searching for a way to break the curse.
A commission involving a bizarre haunted house shattered his quiet life. A resale home in Lijing Gardens, on the west side of the city, concealed deadly dangers: a Ninefold Nether Yin-Locking Formation drained the life force of the living, and one expert after another had failed to overcome it. Called upon for help, Lin Yan stepped forward with his family’s heirloom green-patterned compass and a home-protecting plaque made of lightning-struck jujube wood.
From then on, he left his humble quarters and roamed the city. Haunted houses, shops plagued by bad luck, ancestral graves sabotaged by malicious hands, and wealthy estates concealing dark plots: one feng shui crisis after another came his way. Reading qi and identifying baleful influences, drawing talismans to suppress evil, and setting up formations to dispel calamity, he used the orthodox arts of the mystic sects to relieve suffering, avert disaster, and sweep away all evil.
As he solved one sinister case after another, the evil cultivators who had cast the curse all those years ago gradually emerged from the shadows. Fateful entanglements and clashes between good and evil followed. Watch as Lin Yan wields his compass, stays true to himself, pierces layer upon layer of deception, cuts through a thousand-year-old curse, and carries on the legend of the home-protecting heir.
The plot is novel and unique
