The Heavenly Dao is not a natural law. It was created ten thousand years ago by a powerful being named Yi. Yi made the game of Go and became its player, but after a few moves, he realized he couldn’t beat his own game. So he handed the player’s position over to the Heavenly Dao as well. Fragments of Yi’s consciousness are scattered through the remnants of the luck of 99 ascenders. Every wisp of the chosen ones’ destiny that Su Yan devours helps piece together Yi’s memories. The seventh move, “Flip the Board,” isn’t meant to show the Heavenly Dao. It’s meant for Yi.
