He Has No Title, Yet He Pouts and Pouts

[A quirky, street-smart girl with a head full of schemes VS a cunning boy with many secret identities who plays the pig to eat the tiger] [Historical setting + wuxia mystery + bickering couple + equally matched leads + plot twists] Mu Yin’s greatest wish in life is to have enough to eat, warm clothes, and a chance to keep living. She corners a fugitive in an alley and demands fifteen taels. Her plan is to trick his pursuers into leaving, swipe the jade pendant in his purse, and escape over the wall. But then he pulls out an identical purse from behind his back. Neither of them gets the better of the other. She thinks she’s shaking him down. He thinks he’s using her as bait. They’re both wrong. Later, she learns his name, and discovers he has more than one. She tells him they should go their separate ways. He says they’re headed in the same direction. He never tells the truth, but whenever danger strikes, he’s always the one standing in front of her. Is he here to collect a debt, or repay one? More and more people come after them, and their loyalties grow increasingly tangled. And the man who refuses to leave has known the truth from the very beginning. In the end, he says he’ll pay her back in installments, spread over a lifetime. She flips to the back cover of her ledger. Four words are already written there: No refunds or exchanges.
