After a Stingy Prince Took Me In While I Fled Famine, I Struck It Rich

After transmigrating into the body of a little orphan fleeing famine, Song Ruochu is completely at a loss.

While others plant rice seedlings, she pulls weeds. While others reap wheat, she cuts her hands. A modern college student who had never lifted a finger around the house, she nearly starves to death in a year of famine.

And the man who saves her is a “down-and-out nobody” with a prince’s title, yet even stingier than a beggar: Li Jing.

Word is that the prince is out of favor, his fief so poor you can hear coins clinking in an empty purse. His favorite pastimes are picking up stray money, counting copper coins, and being miserly beyond belief.

Desperate for a meal, Song Ruochu clings to this golden ticket: “Your Highness, I’ll cook for you. Just feed me!”

Li Jing gives her a cold glance. “I can barely support myself. What use is a good-for-nothing like you?”

He complains, but when she turns wild greens into a feast fit for an emperor, and he sees her conjure high-yield seeds out of thin air, the look in the cold prince’s eyes changes.

Before long, wasteland becomes fertile farmland, and a poor, remote village flourishes into a prosperous city.

One day, an urgent report arrives from the capital: enemy forces are at the border, and no one at court dares to lead the defense.

The feeble prince who spends all day trailing Song Ruochu, pinching pennies and chasing money in front of everyone, returns drenched in blood in black armor. He slams the military command seal down on the table, then pulls her into his arms. “The realm is mine, and so are you. Anyone who tries to take either will be destroyed.”

Song Ruochu realizes the truth: this man isn’t actually poor, he’s just devious! He pretended to be poor, weak, and annoyed with her, while secretly scheming to seize the entire realm!
