The kind-hearted Taoist priest Lin Zhengying sets up an altar to worship spirit infants whose bodies were destroyed when their mothers aborted them, leaving them unable to be reborn. Most of the spirit infants at the altar are innocent and adorable, but three have been aborted again and again, filling them with resentment and making them utterly evil. The priest orders his apprentices Qiusheng and Wencai to take the spirit infants' dolls to his junior sister Zhegu to care for them. But they accidentally let one of the evil spirit infants escape before its cultivation is complete. It possesses Lianmei, Zhengying's former lover.
