The Debt Collector of the Mortal World

Rule Horror + Supernatural Mystery + Wild Imagination + Wits and Strategy + Ensemble Cast

On the seventh day after my grandpa's death, the village bully came to seize our land. I edited Grandpa into one of Elon Musk's rockets and posted it with the caption: “Off to Mars for retirement.” The night the video went up, the bully knelt before Grandpa's grave, kowtowing until morning.

I got it: the dead are the biggest attention-grabbers of our time.

After that, I opened the Other Shore Agency, managing the online presence of the dead. For a boy cyberbullied to death, I posted his final update. For a policewoman who died in the line of duty, I revealed the truth someone had buried. For a wronged spirit who'd spent seventy-six years in the river, I reclaimed her ancestral home.

But the rules come at a price. Every debt I collect lowers my body temperature a little and makes my shadow a little fainter. Granny Chen says I'm risking my life to get justice for the dead. I tell her that's not it. I'm making sure the living remember: what they owe must be repaid.

My name is Lu Yuan. In this world, I collect debts on behalf of the dead. The living don't get to shirk a single one.
