During the Yuanhe period of the mid-Tang Dynasty, there was an unwritten rule at the night market on the edge of Chang'an West Market: after dark, go west to the third alley entrance. The shadow puppet stalls with white lanterns can accept the work of the underworld. The stall owner Su Yan is a taciturn young craftsman who only accepts customers after the third watch. He uses an ancestral carving knife to carve the appearance of the deceased on the donkey skin, allowing the ghosts to speak through the shadow puppets. No one knows where his craftsmanship comes from. They only know that the shadow puppets in his hands can untie knots that cannot be untied in the earthly world. It wasn't until the shadow puppet of a headless female corpse spoke its first words that thirty years of unjust debts underground in Chang'an City began to unfold page by page.
