In the end, blinded by her greed for wealth and status, she sneaks into the prince’s bedchamber. He grows disgusted with her and throws her to the mastiffs.

Shen Luyin swallows nervously and points at herself, stammering, “A gold-digging... gold-digger? You mean... me?”

The Celestial Mirror of Secrets: “That’s right, it’s you. Just keep up your character and follow the former-lover storyline to the end, and you’ll receive a generous reward.”

For the sake of that generous reward, Shen Luyin steels herself and starts writing letters to the prince to get his money, planning to run away as soon as she completes her mission.

But then...
