Su Ran returned to the ravine in western Sichuan to inherit the ancestral home, but only got an old shadow puppet box.
People in the village said that the box was not clean - it would sing an opera by itself in the middle of the night.
Until a waxy book of old stories came out of the box, which read:
"After singing this play, you will forget about me."
Su Ran discovered that every time he finished singing a lost opera, he lost a piece of real memory.
And behind every play, there is a murder case that has been sealed for decades.
