J City Criminal Investigation: Eight Baffling Cases Handled by Old Shen and Me

Over the years working with Old Shen, we've handled well over a hundred murder cases. Some were like a steam whistle on the canal: one blast, and then they were gone. Others were like silt at the bottom of Blue Lake, lying there, still wet every time it was stirred up year after year. This book records eight baffling cases: a corpse floating in Blue Lake, bones in a septic tank, a theft on Moon River, a car wreck on Hongbo Road, the Jin Family Supermarket, a series of strangulations, two bodies in Puyuan, and the old Jiahe Inn case that took twenty-five years to solve. Old Shen is the most unlikely police detective I've ever met. His knees are more reliable than the weather forecast, and he always has dried tangerine peel candies in his pocket. When I asked him the secret to solving cases, he said it was like eating: there's no need to rush. If, after reading this, you feel that solving cases isn't quite as mysterious as it seems, that it comes down to a little experience, a little patience, and a little luck, then that's just right. Old Shen says there are no master detectives in this world, only people who refuse to stop.
