Scavenger Chen Chen survives by recycling the debris of interstellar wars. During a routine inspection of unknown relics, he was hit by a mass of information that did not belong to this era. From then on, what he saw with his left eye was no longer light, but the texture of the underlying code of the universe - the initial information field left over from the Big Bang, the spider web of cause and effect, and the account book of the birth and death of all things.
He thought it was an accident. He thought he could survive as long as he evaded capture.
He was wrong.
Every superluminal jump and every vacuum energy extraction leaves irreparable cracks in the underlying structure of the universe. These rifts are attracting "scavengers" from high-dimensional space—chaotic entities that feed on order. The three major super civilizations in the Milky Way know this very well: the Pan-Human Federation chose to hide it, the Zeta Consciousness chose to watch, and the Webweavers devoted all their efforts to build a defensive network on the edge of the Galaxy, just to delay the end.
That end is called entropy silence.
