The Immortal and Mortal Tribulation

Yang Jian, the celestial court’s God of War, has been trapped at the bottleneck of the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm for ages. To break through, he must descend to the mortal world and undergo a trial. Chang’e of the Moon Palace faces the same predicament: long stalled at the Golden Immortal realm, she too must enter the mortal world and experience the ways of the world.

Binhai City, a shining pearl on China’s southeastern coast. Yang Jian assumes the identity of Zhou Yang, captain of the criminal investigation squad, and takes on a grave mission: infiltrate the largest drug-trafficking syndicate in nearly a decade, gather evidence, and uproot this transnational criminal network. The Ministry of State Security has designated the case its top priority. The danger is immense.

Weilin City, another coastal metropolis. Chang’e is reborn as Yang Lili, the daughter of a wealthy family. After returning from studying abroad, she takes over the family business. The conglomerate appears respectable, with interests in hotels, real estate, and finance, but secretly launders drug money. It is the very target Zhou Yang is investigating.

Fate has a cruel sense of humor. During his undercover mission, Zhou Yang meets and falls in love with Yang Lili. She has no idea who he really is, yet as her feelings for him grow, she willingly helps him infiltrate the heart of the conglomerate. Thanks to her trust, Zhou Yang finally gets his hands on evidence of the crimes, and the operation is about to close in.

On the night they move to arrest the syndicate’s key members, a sudden car accident leaves Zhou Yang gravely injured and unconscious. Yang Lili dies at the scene. Three months later, he returns to the celestial realm bearing a second-class merit award. His trial complete, he finally breaks through to the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm. Though Chang’e dies in the mortal world before her time, her love trial is complete, and she too returns to the Moon Palace and breaks through to the Golden Immortal realm.
