In 1980, on Frost's Descent, twin girls are born in a tenement building in Jiangcheng.
Their grandmother calls them “money-losing burdens” and insists they be given away. Their grandfather writes two names on their birth certificates: Xu Guangzong and Xu Yaozu. “These are their names. Anyone who doesn't like it can get lost.”
The elder sister, Xu Guangzong, is born with a gift for wealth: money, lottery wins, and investments all seem to find their way to her. The younger sister, Xu Yaozu, is born with good fortune: everyone loves her, and her blessings come true.
Starting with a little shop on Hanzheng Street, the sisters move on to a garment factory, real estate, and then ring the bell at the stock exchange in the middle of a financial crisis. Over forty years, they turn an insult into a source of pride for the whole city.
Forty years ago, their grandfather said, “Bringing honor to the family doesn't mean you have to be boys. It means living with dignity, standing tall and living more openly than anyone else.”
Over the next forty years, they are born to the chimes of Jianghan Customs House, grow up through summer nights on bamboo beds, run their business to the sound of ferry whistles, and learn to love over steaming bowls of lotus root soup.
Some call them wild, some laugh at their arrogance, and some wait for them to fall. But every time, they grit their teeth, get back up, brush off the dust, and keep moving forward. Because their grandfather always said:
“Girls from Jiangcheng don't back down.”
“Grandpa, we've brought honor to the family.”
[Two heroines + wealth and good fortune + entrepreneurship in a bygone era + the flavor of Wuhan]
Like listening to songs and stories
The introduction is very eye-catching. Leave a paw print🐾
Every chapter repeats those few sentences, sleeping positions, and the sound of cruise ship whistles.
So boring, smells like AI
