My Idol Is Zhang Xue

Her name is Jiang Yu’an, a thirty-year-old attending physician in the emergency department of a top-tier hospital. After finishing an overnight shift, she woke to the stench of decay and people shouting that she had brought down Heaven’s wrath. She had been buried alive in the mass grave at Sophora Village. Crawling out of the dirt, she discovered she had transmigrated to an ancient village ravaged by plague. Seventeen people had died in the east of the village, yet no one in the west had fallen ill. The village’s shaman-healer called it Heaven’s wrath. She said it wasn’t: Heaven’s wrath wouldn’t pick and choose between directions. With a bowl of salt water, she saved a girl the shaman-healer had sentenced to death. At the bottom of an old well that had been sealed for three years, she found the body of someone who had died of poisoning. And inside an iron box engraved with the character “Lu,” she uncovered a list of people who had been “dealt with.” The deeper she investigated, the more secrets she found at the bottom of the well. The plague wasn’t a natural disaster. Someone was using a poison workshop run by the imperial kilns to cover up murders. And the mastermind hiding in the shadows of the capital was already writing her name on the next list of people to be “dealt with.”
