She wakes on a rainy night to find herself transformed into Vivian, a silver-haired noblewoman from a collateral branch of the Victoria family.
Everyone tells her the same thing: she was frightened, fainted in the greenhouse for two days, and woke with confused memories.
But she soon discovers that things are far from that simple.
The greenhouse locked from the outside, the missing seventh window on the east side of the third floor, the extra place setting that appears at the table each day, the overpowering scent in the underground chapel, and the tolling bells that seem to ring straight into her bones... In the gentlest, most genteel way possible, the ancestral estate known as Black Kite Manor is pushing her toward an ending already written for her.
In this age shrouded in white fog, the Fourteen Gods are no mere legends of good and evil. They are real powers that govern fate, sequences, bloodlines, and souls. Lamplighters investigate supernatural disasters, nobles hide scandals behind oaths, and Sequence holders trade their humanity for power. Yet Vivian harbors an anomaly that even the gods cannot easily categorize.
Death is not the end.
It is the curtain falling before the next performance begins.
With every loop, she carries back memories, scars, lies, and a little more of a “path” that has been rewritten. She must play the part of a frail, harmless noble girl, deceiving doctors, butlers, the head of the family, and even herself.
But as she grows more skilled at pretending, more coolly adept at using death, lies, and human nature, Vivian begins to fear:
If she can play anyone, walk any path, and return from death again and again
can she still prove that she is “herself”?
The stage is set.
The Witch's performance has only just begun
I read two chapters first and felt that the writing was pretty good. The plot was reasonable and non-toxic. The psychological portrayal of the characters was delicate, which fit well with the panic state of a sudden soul piercing. The language style also fit the subject matter very well. It was like reading a serious published book. The atmosphere was well created, giving it a hazy fantasy feel.
But there is always a feeling of repetition in the use of language (of course, this may be the author's unique style), and then the author really didn't consider dividing the six or seven thousand words into three chapters. Although the number of words remains the same, there is always a feeling of more [laughing] If the author can maintain a high productivity, just pretend I didn't say it.
Finally, because it's almost three o'clock in the morning, I'm going to bed. I'll watch more tomorrow and then follow up on the review, but for now I think I can give it five stars…
The current progress is at the end of the first volume. The plot of Black Kite House advances at a very comfortable pace and the details are handled very well. It is my favorite writing style. Good review! My only hope is that the author will not stop updating, and I hope that I can catch up to the ending, even if it is slower [crying]
