[Fei Shuangwen] [Stamp of the Times] [Documentary] [Era] This is a story of Jianghu that you have experienced or heard or seen.
In the summer of 1991, it rained for a long time in Linjiang County in western Hubei.
Eighteen-year-old Xiang Changsheng came to Pier 3 from the mountains with only a snakeskin bag, thirty yuan and his mother's instructions: Don't show off your strength and don't fight with others.
But the dock is not a place to be reasonable.
Here, strength is worthless and rules are not written on paper. Who can carry goods, who can speak, who can stand, and who can only bend down, are all hidden in a meal, a cigarette, and a word of "brother."
Xiang Changsheng initially just wanted to make money to support his family, but in the past thirty years, he has watched Linjiang County transform from a small dock town into a local business hub where engineering, sand and gravel, demolition, and tourism are intertwined. He also gradually became "Mr. Xiang" in other people's mouth from a young man in the mountains.
But behind the scenes, old scores never disappear.
In 2021, old cases are reopened. Former brothers, women, police officers, workers, and demolished households all talked about Xiang Changsheng from different angles. Some said he was righteous, some said he was ruthless, and some said no one was clean in that era.
The river is still flowing, but the dock has long since disappeared.
To the west of the Qingjiang River, those people and things that had been soaked by the rain finally resurfaced.
