Bajie’s Notes
“Second Senior Brother! Master’s been captured by demons again!”
“Second Senior Brother! Master and First Senior Brother have both been kidnapped!”
Whenever I hear that, I can’t even be bothered to lift an eyelid.
What’s the rush? It’s the same old routine!
I used to be Marshal of the Heavenly River, so I know all about the ways of the world in the Three Realms. This pilgrimage to the West is nothing but a big game of connections.
All eighty-one trials are scripted. Demons with powerful patrons always get escorted home safe and sound; lowly minions without a single backer can only meet a miserable end.
Tang Sanzang spends all day preaching morality and making empty promises. Wukong has a short fuse and causes trouble everywhere, while Junior Brother Sha can only panic and report the news.
So I might as well pretend not to know what’s going on, slack off whenever I can, eat when I’m hungry, and lie flat when I’m tired.
Becoming a Buddha and attaining the right fruit are just empty titles. I want nothing to do with factional squabbles and all their twists and turns.
Whoever wants that Buddha’s seat can have it. All I want is the comfortable life back in Gao Village. Living in peace and security is what really matters!
