A Full Recap of My Special First Battalion

In 1938, the Japanese army advanced south along the Tianjin-Pukou Railway, hoping to encircle Xuzhou. Liao Guangyi (played by Wu Jing'an), commander of the 56th Army of the National Revolutionary Army's Third Army Group, was ordered to abandon Jinan, a key stronghold on the railway, and retreat without a fight. Zhou Tianyi (played by Xu Jia), commander of the newly formed First Battalion of Liao's former guard unit, had to choose between loyalty to his brothers and the greater good of the nation. In the end, he chose the latter, leading his men away from Liao and toward the front lines of the war against Japan, where they were brutally hunted down. After Zhou and his men broke through the encirclement, they were disarmed en masse in Mingguang by the Guangxi Clique's 31st Army, branded as "rebels." More than three hundred of his brothers were left with their lives hanging in the balance.
