Before the Apocalypse, They Mistook Me for an Intern

Workplace power struggles + project planning + apocalypse survival + satisfying wish fulfillment

When Shen Chuan joins the company’s lowest-level department, all he wants is to keep his head down, do his work, and stay out of trouble.

He submits his paperwork that morning, with half an hour left until lunch. Wearing headphones, he glances at his phone a few times. Because he looks young, a middle-aged colleague he has never met mistakes him for an intern and tears into him.

“Which mentor are you interning under?”

“Why are you on your phone during work hours? Is that what the company pays you for?”

Then, in front of everyone, she even declares:

“Don’t bother coming in tomorrow.”

Everyone assumes it’s just an ordinary office dispute.

But no one knows that the young man she takes for an easy target has far deeper connections than they could ever imagine.

The storm in the workplace has only just begun.

As time goes on, Shen Chuan gradually realizes that the office rules aren’t the only things about to collapse.

Extreme weather, dwindling supplies, paralyzed cities, and a breakdown of order… A global disaster is quietly closing in. And the company’s much-maligned fringe project is actually the most important shelter project for the coming age of extreme cold.

Those who once fought for power and undermined one another at work will eventually find themselves standing on the same ruins when the apocalypse arrives.

Then, connections, backgrounds, job titles, and seniority will all be reassessed.

And the quiet newcomer who has kept his head down will finally stop hiding his edge.
