Colorful Opera

**The Motley Show**

**Worldbuilding:** This is a world where "art leads to the divine." The Four Arts, puppetry, spirit-summoning through opera singing, lion-dance battle formations, and inviting gods through Nuo masks, are the four recognized paths of cultivation. Each has its own sects, lineages, and rules. The world knows only the Four Arts.

**Motley Show performers** follow a Fifth Art, but no one acknowledges it. The underlying principle of the Four Arts is to "borrow external power": borrowing strings, voices, lions, or gods. But the Motley Show performer's principle is "I am": no medium, no invocation, only the self. To the Four Arts, this is not cultivation. It is **blasphemy**.

So the four great sects joined forces to erase the Motley Show performers from history. The classics make no mention of them, their tradition survives only through word of mouth, and each generation passes it on to just one person.

**Protagonist:** A young street performer skilled at sleight of hand and stunts like breaking a boulder on his chest. He thinks he is just an ordinary entertainer, until one day he "plays" a dead man, and that man really comes back to life.

Only then does an old Motley Show performer find him and tell him: You are a Motley Show performer.
