Q: What should you do if you accidentally kill a snake demon?
A: Become its disciple and provide it with food, lodging, and incense.
The thing Chen Jiujin regrets most in his life is getting up in the middle of the night and slapping to death a white snake that was stealing his chickens.
The snake wasn't quite dead, and it latched onto him. “You killed my physical body, so you have to make it up to me.”
Make it up to you? How?
“Set up an altar for me. I'll be your immortal patron, and you'll be my disciple. From today on, you take care of me.”
And so, the 20-year-old young man from Northeast China was forced into the job, becoming a proud disciple of the spirit medium tradition.
The problem was...
He didn't know how to do anything.
He couldn't even tell which incense stick went where.
And the snake was only a remnant soul, constantly saying, “I'm tired. I'm going to sleep for a bit,” and leaving him alone to face a house full of ghosts.
No System, no golden finger, and not even a proper master.
With nothing but his silver tongue, his courage, and a half-dead snake, Chen Jiujin set out on his path to vanquish demons and evil spirits.
