Zombies chased me three streets.
There was one last order left in the takeout box that had not been delivered, and the words on the phone screen were still flashing: "Overtime deduction of 50 yuan." I pushed the pedal of the electric car with all my strength, and the battery had already reached its lowest point. The voice prompt coming from the speaker was like a reminder: "Your order has been overdue for thirty minutes, please deliver it as soon as possible."
Fuck orders.
The thing in the rearview mirror was accelerating. It wasn't the disgusting swaying steps of a traditional zombie, but it was crawling on four legs at high speed like a beast. Its vertebrae protruded from its back, rotten muscles hung on the bones, and a few pieces of black and yellow flesh were shed with every step it took.
I turned into a narrow alley and knocked over two trash cans. Paper boxes, fast food boxes and cans exploded with a loud bang. The beast didn't slow down and ran over the garbage pile. The broken bones got stuck into the tires. My electric car drifted on the spot and I flew out of the car. My back hit the stainless steel door of the unit building, and my internal organs seemed to be turned upside down.
My hand touched the door handle, but it couldn't be turned, so it was locked.
The thing stopped and tilted its head to look at me. Its eyes were pure white with no pupils. Drool dripped from the corner of its mouth from grinning to the base of its ears, burning smoke on the floor tiles.
I didn't cry.
I just took out the last lollipop in my pants pocket - strawberry flavored, I found it from the ruins of the convenience store the day before yesterday. Peel off the candy wrapper and stuff it into your mouth. It's so sweet that it makes you sick.
The door opened.
It wasn't opened by someone, it was the door lock that popped open on its own.
