Grandpa's Ghost-Catching Past

There are always a lot of taboo things in the mouths of the older generation, and they can gossip about them, but they will never talk about ghosts and gods, for fear of getting into trouble and losing their longevity. In our rural villages in western Gansu, these words are regarded as a guideline by the elderly, engraved in their bones, and integrated into their daily words and deeds. When my grandfather was young, he was able to perform yin and yang, ward off evil spirits, and handle supernatural and strange things that no one could compare to him. Even the elderly in the surrounding counties would give a thumbs up when my grandfather's name was mentioned, with a tone of awe. It's just that my grandfather never talked about these things all his life, and never said a word to the younger members of the family. It was as if those shocking and bizarre experiences had long been buried in the dust of the years, rotten in his stomach, and he never wanted to mention them again.
