Thirteen-year-old Li Chunsheng, orphaned by the deaths of both his parents, sets out on the path to immortality after a mysterious gourd falls into his hands. An old physician raises him and helps him along the way.
Having witnessed every kind of bullying and mockery, and the cruelty of the human heart, he survives one life-or-death ordeal after another. The innocent, kind-hearted boy eventually becomes a ruthless killer.
Standing atop the mountain where his journey began, he looks down upon all creation and proclaims, “My Dao bones span heaven and earth; all ancient green mountains bow before me. I alone wield the supreme Dao of the heavens; none in this world can match me.”
