Upright demon hunter × ancient mythical beast, the Deceitful Beast
The demon clans are engulfed in chaos and war. Orphaned at birth, the Deceitful Beast drifts through the human world.
While out training, demon hunter Xie Guanfu happens upon a soft little bundle. Mistaking it for a young rabbit, he takes it back to his residence and casually names it Xiaobai, raising it as a pet.
At the time, Xiaobai is still young and clueless, with no intelligence to speak of. It spends its days glued to Xie Guanfu’s side as he cultivates. As the days pass, Xiaobai awakens its spiritual intelligence and takes human form.
When Xie Guanfu learns that his rabbit is actually an ancient Deceitful Beast, he knows a demon hunter cannot simply keep a demon beast for himself. So he forms a contract with Xie Yining, giving him a proper reason to keep him by his side, and names him Xie Yining.
Newly transformed, Xie Yining knows nothing. Xie Guanfu teaches him everything, from eating and drinking to proper conduct and social etiquette. But Deceitful Beasts are born with a fondness for casually telling lies, and each time Xie Yining lies, he gets punished by Xie Guanfu.
After being scolded, the little beast cuddles up to him and sweetly begs for forgiveness. In time, he manages to stir the heart of the usually cool and distant Xie Guanfu.
But Xie Yining has yet to understand matters of the heart. He only knows that he depends on his master.
The demon hunter, who has fallen in love, can only patiently set his traps one step at a time, gently leading him in.
In the end, the little beast who tells nothing but lies falls headlong into Xie Guanfu’s tender snare and, without quite knowing how it happened, gives him a lifetime of devotion.
