This book takes the Ruoyou District Government Office as the background and depicts the joys and sorrows of the secretary group and the survival picture of grassroots officialdom. It focuses on the embarrassment and confusion, pursuit and dreams, perseverance and struggle of Li Xiaozhe and others in the officialdom.
Li Xiaozhe was originally a teacher at Ruoyou Normal School. By chance, he was admitted to a government office. As his status changed, he found the daughter of a local wealthy businessman as his wife. His work in the government was relatively smooth, but he had new demands in his heart. After several years of experience in officialdom, he found that what he really pursued was not the glory brought by official position and power, although most people in the officialdom valued these and almost used them as the only criterion for judging success in life. When Li Xiaozhe found what he really wanted, he chose to escape officialdom without hesitation and went to Ruoyou Normal School to serve as deputy secretary of the party committee. In the end, I returned to my inner choice to a certain extent, partially realized my ideal, and returned to this campus with towering trees and green grass.
